John Thomson

John was born on November 12th, 1793 in Bathgate and his baptism took place there on December 3rd, 1793.¹   John's father was James Thomson and his mother was Mary Bruce.  His maternal grandparents were William Bruce and Janet Newlands. He had four brothers and five sisters, named William, George, James, Archibald, Janet, Margaret, Mary, Catherine and Janet.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.
