William's father was William Munachen and his mother was Catherine Robertson. His maternal grandparents were George Robertson and Martha Carlton McGloughlane. He had five brothers and eight sisters, named Peter, Peter, George, James, John, Martha, Agnes, Euphemia, Annie, Minnie, Martha, Minnie and Janet. He was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children. He had two half-brothers named William and Peter. He died at the age of 80 on June 1st, 1966 in Melbourne. He was buried in Victoria, Australia.³
