Marion's father was William McDonald and her mother was Elizabeth Ferguson. Her paternal grandparents were Charles McDonald and Janet McNidder Robertson. She had a brother and nine sisters, named Charles, Janet, Jeanie, Elizabeth, Maggie, Mary, Marion, Agnes, Annie and Agnes. She was the third youngest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 25 in 1911 in Kilmaurs.
