Martha's father was William McBarron and her mother was Annie Robertson. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas McBarron and Martha Welsh; her maternal grandparents were David Robertson and Mary Eaglesome Smith Frew. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Patrick, Thomas, William, George, James, Annie, Martha and Mary. She was the third youngest of the nine children. She had three half-brothers named Alexander, Walter and Alexander. She died at the age of 78 in 1979 in Glamorganshire.
