John Martin

John was born in June 1850 in Newton-on-Ayr.¹ John's father was Robert Martin and his mother was Margaret Barr. His paternal grandparents were John Martin and Margaret Shaw. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William, James, Robert, Agnes, Mary, Isabella, Margaret, Margaret, Martha and Helen. He was the third oldest of the eleven children.
