John was born in 1813 in Kirkliston.1 2 John's father was John Johnston and his mother was Isabella Baxter. His paternal grandparents were John Johnston and Julian Gillis; his maternal grandparents were Ronald Baxter and Isabella Erskine. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Andrew, Betsy, Isabella, Julia, Isabella, Betsey and Margaret. He died due to a medical problem, general debility, gangrene of leg, at the age of 86 on July 31st, 1899 in Kirkliston.1 - Death Notes
