According to 1901 census, the 2 oldest children spoke Gaelic and English, which seems very unusual. The parents didn't speak Gaelic; however a John Smith, aged 56, canal bank labourer, born in Muiravonside, Stirlingshire, was a lodger, and he is also listed as being a Gaelic and English speaker.
