Charles' father was John Davidson and his mother was Ann Wilson.  His maternal grandparents were John Wilson and Margaret Rennie. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John, <Unknown>, Margaret, Jessie and Annie.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had two half-sisters named Isabella and Mary.
