Blanche's father was Thomas Crosbie and her mother was Helen Cunningham. Her maternal grandparents were Alexander Cunningham and Margaret Mitchell. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Irvine, John, Archibald, Margaret and Jean. She was the youngest of the eight children.
