Janet's father was James Craig and her mother was Margaret (Maggie) Towers. Her maternal grandparents were Michael Towers and Janet Mathie. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Willie, Jimmy, Fay and Nan. She was the second oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 13 in March 1895 in Paisley. She was buried in Paisley.²²
