James, known as Jim, was born in 1923 in Paisley.

Jim's father was James (Jimmy) Craig and his mother was Margaret (Maggie) Elsie McIntyre. His paternal grandparents were James Craig and Margaret (Maggie) Towers. He had a brother and two sisters, named Donald, Elspeth and Margaret. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died due to a medical problem, Multiple sclerosis, at the age of 45 on May 30th, 1968 in Paisley. He was buried in Paisley.¹¹
