Ann's father was Col William Preston and her mother was Susannah Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Col John Preston and Elizabeth Patton; her maternal grandparents were Francis Smith and Elizabeth Waddi. She had five brothers and six sisters, named John, Francis Smith, William, James Patton, Thomas Lewis, Elizabeth, Sarah, Susannah, Mary, Letitia and Margaret Brown.  She died at the age of 13.
