Margaret was born in March 1839.  Margaret's father was James M. Marshall and her mother was Eliza Rush.  Her paternal grandparents were William Marshall and Mary C. Banes. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Mason, Thomas, Sara and Rosa E..  She is the oldest of the five children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William Abraham, James Phineas, John M., Susan Mary and Hester Ann.
