William was born on December 19th, 1764 in Bucks County, PA.  William's father was James Marshall and his mother was Jane Lindsey. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Lindsey, John, Benjamin, James, Edward, Jane, Rebekah and Catharine.  He died at the age of 80 on April 15th, 1845 in Shepherdstown, VA.  He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV.
