Her paternal grandfather was Robert De Ferrers and her paternal grandmother is Margaret Peverel; her maternal grandfather was William De Braose and her maternal grandmother is Bertha De Pitres of Gloucester. She had a brother and five sisters, named William II, Elizabeth, Robert, Millicent, Pernell and Petronella. She was the second oldest of the seven children.
