Rhiryd ap was born about 1046.  Rhiryd ap's father was Bleddyn ap Cynfyn and his mother is Haer verch Cillin.  His paternal grandparents are Cynfyn ap Gwerystan and Angharad verch Maredydd; his maternal grandfather is Cynllyn ap Blaidd. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Madog ap, Maredydd ap, Cadwagan ap, Iorweth ap, Gwenllian Vech and Hunydd Vech.  He is the second oldest of the seven children.
