Lydia was born on July 24th, 1794 in Hopkinton, Washington, Rhode Island, USA.1 Lydia's father was Harris Chesebro and her mother is Martha Champlin. Her paternal grandparents were James Chesebrough and Lucy Pendleton; her maternal grandparents are Samuel Champlin and Mary Kenyon. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Harris, Samuel Champlin, Nathan, Eli, Jared, Patt Polly, Rhoda Rhody, Phoebe and Catherine. She is the third oldest of the ten children.-
