Matthew was born in 1782. Matthew's father was James ,3rd,Rev. Skaggs and his mother is Nancy Mayse. His paternal grandfather was James ,Jr. Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Mary Unknown. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Henry, James ,4th, Stephen, William, John Blackhawk, Moses Madison, Nancy, Lydia and Sarah. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 86 in 1868 in Hart Co.,Kentucky.-
