His paternal grandfather was James ,Jr. Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Mary Unknown. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Henry, James ,4th, Matthew, Stephen, William, John Blackhawk, Nancy, Lydia and Sarah. He was the youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 50 on January 24th, 1858.-
