William was born in Abbey of Valence, Lusignan, France.  William's father was Hugh X Lusignan le Brun de la Marche and his mother was Isabella de Taillefer of Angouleme.  His paternal grandfather was Hugh IX de Lusignan de la Marche; his maternal grandparents were Aymer Taillefer de Valence of Angouleme and Alice de Courtenay. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Hugh XI Lusignan, Guy, Geoffrey of Jarnac, Henry, Aymer, Maud, Agatha de Lusignan, Margaret, Alice de Lusignan and Isabella. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Henry III Plantagenet of, Richard of, Joan (Gwenllian) Plantagenet of, Isabella (Elizabeth) of and Eleanor (Nell) Plantagenet of.  He died on May 17th, 1296 in England.  He was buried in Westminster Abbey, London, England.

‌William and Johanna were married in a religious ceremony on August 13th, 1247.  They had three sons and four daughters, named John, William le Jeune, Aymer, Agnes, Joan, Margaret and Isabel.
