William was born after 1090 in Bradninch, Devonshire, England.  William's father was Henry I Beauclerc of England and his mother was Sibylla Corbet.  His paternal grandparents were William I the Conqueror of England and Mathilda of Flanders; his maternal grandfather was Robert de Corbet. He had three brothers and eleven sisters, named Robert the Consul de Meullent, Gilbert of, Reginald de Dunstanville, Sybillia Corbet of, Rohese FitzRoy of, Alice (Aline) of, Eustacie of, Joan of, Mathilda of, Constance of, Daughter Beauclerc of, Daughter of, Elizabeth FitzHenry of and Emma of. He had ten half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Richard of, William the Aetheling of, Robert, Fulk of, Richard of, Henry FitzHenry of, Robert of, Robert, Herbert III, Henry, Euphamia of, Matilda the Empress of, Juliane of, Maud FitzEdith of, Isabel of, Maud of and Rohese Fitzherbert of.  He died in 1136.
