Ermengarde was born before 1186.  Ermengarde's father was Richard de Beaumont and her mother was Lucie de l'Aigle.  Her paternal grandfather was Raoul (Roscelin) de Beaumont and her paternal grandmother is Constance of England; her maternal grandfather was Richard de l'Aigle. She had a brother and a sister, named Raoul and Constance.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She was buried in Balmerino Abbey, Fife, Scotland.

‌Ermengarde and William I the Lion of were married in a religious ceremony on September 5th, 1186 in Was arranged by Henry II of England.  They had a son and three daughters, named Alexander II Dunkeld the Peaceful of, Margaret of, Isabella of and Marjorie of.
