"HUNTER, N. D. - The funeral for Lewis Sutton, 55, former Cass County
Commissioner, will be here at 2 Wednesday in First Lutheran Church.  He
died Sunday.  Mr. Sutton had a long career of public service in Cass
County and also in the state.  He was born here June 3, 1916, and
attended North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton.  He served in
World War II and had farmed here.  He had been an employee of Cass County
Highway Department and was a former employee of Dakota Tractor and
Equipment.  He retired in 1970 after serving for 20 years as a
commissioner for Cass County.  He was a past president of North Dakota
Welfare Conference of Social Workers and was a past president of North
Dakota Association of County Commissioners.  He also was president of
Cass County Welfare Board and resigned last July after serving for many
years as a member of the local school board.  He was currently serving as
president of Red River Valley Fair Board.  He was a member of American
Legion and a Shriner.  He married Helen Bjorlie Sept. 20, 1947, who
survives with a daughter and three sons, Linda, 1709 4th St. N., Fargo,
William and Robert, both students at North Dakota State University, and

THE HUNTER TIMES Section of Cass County Reporter (published in Casselton,
Cass County, North Dakota) dated October 28,1971: "Funeral services for
Lewis Sutton of Hunter were held Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 27, in the
First Lutheran Church, Hunter.  Rev. John Guthrey officiated.  Mr. Sutton
died Sunday, Oct. 24, at the age of 55.  Mrs. Morrell Dickson was
organist.  Soloist was Douglas Anderson.  Pallbearers were Bernard Holes
Jr., William Wedberg, John Jorgensen, Chris Jensen, Melvin Lien and
Everett Miesse.  Interment is in the Hunter cemetery.  Mr. Sutton was
born June 3, 1916 at Hunter.  He attended North Dakota State School of
Science at Wahpeton and served in World War II.  He married Helen Bjorlie
Sept. 20, 1947.  The couple farmed near Hunter.  He had been an employee

Family history note: His middle name was probably Walden instead of
Waldon but his original birth certificate burned in a fire at the state
capitol in Bismarck, N.D. and a new one was issued so he could go into
military service for World War II.  The new birth certificate was signed
by Dr. Bailey who had been the physician at his home birth (and was in
the 1940's a physician at Fargo Clinic in Fargo).  This information was
