Ruth Sarah Jean was born on December 20th, 1916. Ruth Sarah Jean's father was Winfield Scott Gatten and her mother was Martha Viola Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Thomas Gatten and Hannah Jane Highman. She had a brother and four sisters, named Oliver Thurman, Estella Lovella, Chloe May, Mary Mildred and Edna Lourena. She is the youngest of the six children.-
