Samuel Peter Miller 
Samuel Peter was born on January 11th, 1872 in Terre Haute,Vigo County,Indiana. Samuel Peter's father was Henry Clay Miller and his mother was Isabelle Gray. His paternal grandparents were Henry Miller and Magdelena Helena Dipple; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin F or I Gray and Nancy McQuerry. He had a brother named Harry Edward. He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother named Harrison Morton. He died at the age of 74 on November 23rd, 1946 in Terre Haute,Vigo County,Indiana. Samuel Peter Miller from age 12 to 21was known as George Williams (All the Bealmears in Coal City, IN knew him by this name.) lived with Moffett Family in Owen Co. IN and was listed in 1880 census. His stepmother was very cruel to him, such as pouring boiling water on his hands. A teacher at school helped him to "disappear" and live a better life. The stepmother was investigated, local wells were searched, but no one knew what had happened to him till he appeared at the age of 21. Have a letter, written by Winfield Scott, noting that he had returned.
He became a very fine engineer especially in the installation and maintainence of Otis Elevators in the Terre Haute Tribune and Star Bldg. on Wabash Ave. Terre Haute. IN.
He gave grandaughter, Dorothy Powers Elliott, a Boston Bull Terrier on her 5th birthday bringing it to her home in his coat pocket. He also bought her an accordian about age 8. When she would visit him, usually at work in the Terre Haute Star Building, he would always give her a half dollor which was a lot of money during the depression years.
He suffered a stroke and lived several years in the home of Mrs. Bailey who cared for him. He died there. Dorothy remembers going to visit him in the spring of 1946 with her boyfriend. He was bedridden then but able to visit with them.
