"Was in possession of their son Griffin Gray and when his daughter Elizabeth Gray died it was given to me---------Carolyn Miller Powers. My parents always visited "Lizzie" and her mother Anna who lived on So. 3rd St. near present Hulman Street---3rd house south of Hulman on west side of street."
(This is in Terre Haute, Indiana)
The above information was written by my Mother---Carolyn Miller Powers---in 1966 from a copy of the birth records she had made from the bible in the 1930's. The bible is very deteriated now and writing hard to read as it was in pencil to begin with. Dorothy Powers Elliott April 17, 1999

Dated Dec. 9, 1840
Joseph and Millie, according to a relative's notes, came to Terre Haute, Indiana in about 1840 from Anderson, Indiana. They had come from North Carolina by ox-cart, about 1830 with several other families and settled in and around Anderson, Indiana. The home site (in T. H ) was supposed to have been on what is now known as the "Old Ijams Farm" south of Terre Haute, a short distance. President Harrison is said to have made two spectacular trips to T.H. to visit with Margaret Gray Harrison after the disappearance of her husband.
