Charles W's father was Samuel A. Kennedy and his mother was Mary Goodrich. His paternal grandparents were John Young Kennedy and Mary McKinney; his maternal grandparents were Nathan Goodrich and Mary Louden. He had two sisters named Josephine and Eliza Kate. He had five half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Everett, Archie, Frederick, George, Samuel, Jessie and Laurie.-
