Grace M. was born in January 1883 in Monroe County, Indiana. Grace M.'s father was William Taylor Shields and her mother was Amanda Ellen Deckard. Her paternal grandparents were William Henry Harrison Shields and Mary Ellen Hudlin; her maternal grandparents were Andrew Deckard and Mary Ann Chambers. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Daniel, William Andrew, Charles, Ora L., Ida Florence, Cora Alma, Ann P. and Ruby. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 86 on August 9th, 1969 in Monroe County, Indiana. She was buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Clear Creek, Monroe Co., Indiana.-
