Zella Loretta was born on October 28th, 1926 in Monroe County, Indiana. Zella Loretta's father was Joseph H. Butcher and her mother was Lora L. Shields. Her paternal grandparents were Matthew Butcher and Elizabeth J. Grubb; her maternal grandparents were David Shields and Lucy Amanda Vint. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Estel Joseph, Harold Herman, Elmer Dillon, Delmar Duard, Melvin Ira, Vesta Hazel, Oneta, Maude Ellen and Zetta Catherine. She was the second youngest of the ten children.-
