Cody was born on April 15th, 1896 in Nicholas Co,WV. Cody's father was Joseph Steven Hicks and his mother was Mildred Fitzwater. His paternal grandparents were George Washington Hicks and Delilah Burdett. He had four brothers and eight sisters, named George Joseph, James Wilmoth, John H., Arthur, Lenoa Caroline, Elizabeth Jane, Ella, Mary D., Fannie L., Burlie, Letha and Margaret Mae. He was the third youngest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 78 on December 22nd, 1974 in Fayette Co,WV.-
