Charles Sylvester was born on February 1st, 1867 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.1 Charles Sylvester's father was John Milton Coffland and his mother was Malinda Elma Varner. His paternal grandparents were Lancelot Coffland and Eliza Beckett; his maternal grandparents were John "Johnny" Varner Jr and Irena Emma Andrews. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Lancelot Columbus, Ross W, John Nelson, Ancil, Mary L and Fedela. He had a half-sister named Julia B. He died at the age of 74 in 1941 in Culdesac, Nez Perce County, Idaho.1 -
