May was born on April 2nd, 1922 in Chorlton-cum-Hardy.¹

May's father was Archibald (Archie) Pickin Wright and her mother was Edith (Eda) Mercer. Her maternal grandparents were John Robert Mercer and Emily Anne Herring. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Albert, John, Edie, Janet and Hilda. She was the fourth oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 10 on December 26th, 1932.¹
