Jane was born in 1829 in Little Neston and her baptism took place on January 30th, 1829 in Neston.1 2  Jane's father was William Woodworth (Woodward) and her mother was Eleanor (Ellen) Day.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Woodworth and Alice Dobb. She had four brothers and five sisters, named William, George, Joseph, Joseph, Ellen, Ann, Ellen, Alice and Margaret.  She was the youngest of the ten children.

‌Jane and John were married in a religious ceremony on December 22nd, 1856 at St. Peter (Liverpool).3   They had a son and a daughter, named William and Martha.
