John's father was John Woodhead and his mother was Hannah Scover. He had a sister named Elizabeth.  He was the younger of the two children. He had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named John, Joseph, Michael, Matthew, John, Sarah, Hanah, Mary, Sarah and Mary.  He died after 1841.

‌John and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on November 2nd, 1780 in Almondbury.³
