Charles was born on May 2nd, 1831 in Broughton (Hawarden) and his baptism took place there on May 29th, 1831.¹

Charles' father was Samuel Williams and his mother was Jane Jones. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Williams and Ann Millington. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, John, James, Job, William, Eliza and Mary. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
