Emily was born in 1892 in Halliwell and her baptism took place on March 2nd, 1892 at St. Matthew (Halliwell).1  Emily's father was Thomas Whittaker and her mother was Sarah Ann Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Henry Mather and Maria Duckworth (Thompson). She had two sisters named Ethel and Annie.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
