Annie's father was James Whitaker and her mother was Sarah Ann Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were William Whitaker and Sarah Mather. She had a brother and three sisters, named William, Harriet, Mary and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the five children. She had six half-brothers and a half-sister, named James, Walter, Charles, Frank, John, Harold and Lucy.
