Thomas' father was Thomas Westby and his mother was Sarah Mather. His maternal grandparents were Joseph (Joshua) Mather and Mary Thorp. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Mary and Jane. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at 3 months old in January 1839 in Little Bolton. His burial was on January 6th, 1839 in Bolton.²¹
