Elizabeth was born in December 1870 in Bolton and her baptism took place on August 27th, 1871 at Gilnow Road Chapel.1 2  Elizabeth's father was Josiah Welsby and her mother was (Ruth) Ellen Shaw.  Her paternal grandparents were Walter Welsby and Maria Bolton. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Walter, John, Maria and Sarah.  She was the oldest of the five children.

‌Elizabeth and Wilfred were married in a religious ceremony on February 13th, 1892 at St. Thomas the Apostle (Halliwell).3   They had a son and a daughter, named Wilfred and Ellen.  There are no more children.
