Maria was born in 1823 in Wilsden (Bradford).1  Maria's father was Miles Waddington and her mother was Martha (Matty) Pickles.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Walsh. She had a brother and six sisters, named Joseph, Betsy, Martha, Mary, Rachel, Hannah and Sarah.  She was the youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 36 in September 1859 in Horton.2
