Robert's father was Robert Thomasson and his mother was Doris Ralphs. His paternal grandparents were Paul Thomasson and Elizabeth Alice Thornley; his maternal grandparents were Richard Martin Ralphs and Mary Alice Entwistle. He had a brother named Richard. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 38 on June 30th, 1968 in Monmouthshire.²
