Emma was born in June 1839 in Wrexham.1  Emma's father was John Eddowes and her mother was Mary Thomas.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Charlotte Morris. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Eliza, John, George, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Mary and Eliza.  She was the oldest of the ten children.
