Mary was born in 1818 in Farnworth and her baptism took place on March 29th, 1818 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1  Mary's father was Simon Stones and her mother was Mary Hardman.  Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Stones and Ann Mather. She had a brother and five sisters, named William, Ann, Betty, Alice, Sarah and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
