Sarah was born in 1816 in Longwood and her baptism took place there on September 8th, 1816.¹

Sarah's father was George Stocks and her mother was Hannah Blakey. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Stocks and Ann Walker. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Joseph, George, John, Elizabeth and Mary. She was the oldest of the seven children.

- In 1847, Sarah Stocks (30) of Clover Hill, Skircoat, daughter of George Stocks, married Edwin Halliwell (33), Bootmaker. Two brothers were witness.
