Sally was born in 1778 in Huddersfield and her baptism took place on December 6th, 1778 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).1  Sally's father was Benjamin Stocks and her mother was Sarah Cliffe.  Her paternal grandparents were David Stocks and Sarah Brook. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Mathew, Benjamin, Samuel, Job, Ann, Jinny, Hannah and Bathey.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
