Jinny was born in 1777 in Huddersfield and her baptism took place on December 25th, 1777 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).1  Jinny's father was Benjamin Stocks and her mother was Sarah Cliffe.  Her paternal grandparents were David Stocks and Sarah Brook. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Mathew, Benjamin, Samuel, Job, Ann, Sally, Hannah and Bathey.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
