Florence's father was Charles Henry Stocks and her mother was Frances (Fanny) Ann Perry. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Stocks and Hannah Batty. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Frank, Emily, Ethel, Rhoda, Elsie and Dorothy. She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
