Benjamin was born in September 1844 R Cliviger & Mereclough.1  Benjamin's father was George Slater and his mother was Sarah (Sally) Whitehead.  His paternal grandparents were John Slater and Susan Britcliffe. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas, John, Jane, Hannah and Susannah.  He was the youngest of the seven children.  He died at 9 months old in June 1845 R Cliviger & Mereclough.1
