Richard was born in December 1840 in Ness.1  Richard's father was Richard Robinson and his mother was Maria Williams.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Williams and Mary Woodworth. He had three sisters named Mary, Elizabeth and Maria.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
