Frederick's father was Robert A Roberts and his mother was Jessie Lewis. His maternal grandparents were Samuel Lewis and Mary Ann Huxley. He had a brother and two sisters, named Robert, Adeline and Hilda. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 51 in 1959.
